Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific discipline focused on understanding how behavior is influenced by interactions among the individual, the environment, and learning history. ABA uses principles of learning to identify environmental supports and barriers and to promote socially meaningful behavior change. Interventions are collaboratively designed around the family and individual’s goals, values, strengths, and interests. ABA practitioners focus on modifying environments, building skills, and prioritizing outcomes that enhance quality of life. Caregivers are partners in goal selection, intervention planning, and ongoing decision-making. Therapy includes caregiver training and coaching to support generalization of skills across natural settings. Treatment progress is monitored through ongoing data collection and analysis to ensure that strategies are effective, ethical, and person-centered. ABA can support the development of functional communication, adaptive living skills, self-advocacy, and participation in meaningful activities throughout daily life.
